Our Story

Mealcious was born from frustration. Our founder, Alex Chen, has severe food allergies and follows a strict ketogenic diet for health reasons. Every restaurant meal felt like a game of Russian roulette—calling ahead, explaining restrictions, worrying about cross-contamination, and never really knowing if the food was aligned with his health goals.

One evening at a popular restaurant, despite detailed conversation with the server, the meal arrived with an undisclosed ingredient that triggered an allergic reaction. Frustrated, Alex realized the problem wasn't restaurants being careless—it was that they had no systematic way to capture ingredient-level detail and match it with diner needs at scale.

Alex partnered with Dr. Sarah Williams, a nutritionist with 15 years of clinical experience, and James Liu, a restaurant technology expert who had built POS systems. Together, they asked: What if restaurants could understand their diners at the ingredient level? What if health-conscious diners could find meals aligned with their needs in seconds?
